Life Guards
Summer 2008
Location: North Side Swim Center
Job Details: Must have current Life Guard certification. Swim Center hours are 11:00 a.m. until 5 p.m. Additional hours are available for private rental parties on evenings and weekends. The Season dates are May 23rd thru Sept 1st. All qualified applicants must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License, and be able to pass a background check and drug screen.

Summer Internships
Job Requirements: Must be currently enrolled in an internship program through an accredited college or university in an academic area related to the work performed by the Parks and Recreation Authority. Must possess a valid driver’s license and complete a successful background check, including a drug and alcohol test.
Job Details: Under supervision, assist in the day to day operations of the parks and recreation authority, including athletics; recreation; marketing and parks divisions.  Work will include special events; summer camps; sports, special populations, maintenance, administrative duties, as well as other duties.

Driving Range Attendant
Location:  Etowah Park Driving Range
Department:  Recreation Services
Reports to:  Recreation Services Manager

Overall Purpose
Under general supervision, the position provides assistance to patrons of the park engaged in recreational activities.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements
High School Diploma or G.E.D.  Experience in retail or service industry.  Knowledge of golf is desirable.  Must possess valid Georgia Driver’s License.

Essential Job Functions

  • Open and close driving range
  • Prepare facility and equipment for use
  • Check supplies/inventory/restock as needed
  • Perform clerical and cash control procedures as appropriate
  • Assist customers with purchases and equipment rental
  • Respond  to customer requests for information by phone or in person
  • Monitor  golf practice facility to ensure that park use is in accordance with rules and regulations
  • Maintain facility security
  • Perform  custodial work as needed
  • Report needed repairs or damaged equipment
  • Performs other duties as required

Store Clerk

Under general supervision, the position provides assistance to patrons of the park engaged in recreational activities.

High School Diploma or G.E.D. with a minimum of 2 years experience in retail and customer service.  Knowledge of outdoor recreation or related field is desirable.  Must possess valid Georgia Driver’s License.

Essential Job Functions

  • Opens and closes Trading Post store
  • Checks store inventory/restocks as needed
  • Performs clerical and cash control procedures as appropriate
  • Assists customers with purchases, campsite reservations, pavilion and boat launch usage
  • Monitors park usage and ensures that park use is in accordance with rules and regulations
  • Maintains facility security
  • Performs custodial work as needed in Trading Post and Nature Center
  • Reports needed repairs or damaged equipment
  • Records visitor and phone requests for information
  • Performs other duties as required

Tennis/Skate Center Attendant

Location:           Etowah Park 1325 Kingston Hwy. Rome Ga.

Overall Purpose
The attendant will oversee all program participants in the Etowah Tennis/Skate Center complex and have a positive demeanor with patrons.

Basic Job Requirements
Attendant must be a minimum of 18 years old.
 Work flexible hours and days.
 Have a valid driver’s license.

Essential Job Functions
*Ensure that complex use is in accordance with rules and regulations and all fees are collected.
*Maintains surveillance of complex and activities during scheduled work hours.
*Maintain complex security by locking gates and doors, turn out lights and securing monies collected using established procedure.
*Perform custodial work such as emptying trash cans, cleaning restrooms and picking up trash around the immediate facility.
*Perform other duties as assigned or required.

1) POSITION TITLE: Program Coordinator
DEPARTMENT:    Recreation Services
REPORTS TO:     Recreation Services Manager
SUPERVISES:     Part-time staff and volunteers
SALARY:            Commensurate with experience

Overall Purpose
This position is responsible for community collaboration, planning, coordinating, supervising and administrating recreation activities, events, and programs in a Recreation Center setting; including instructional programs, public service programs, community special events, clinics, and camps.

Qualification/Basic Job Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Management or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience in recreation programming. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License. CPR/AED/First Aid certification. Ability to obtain the National Parks and Recreation Association Professional Certification.

Essential Job Functions

Plans, develops, coordinates and supervises recreational opportunities and programs for adults and youth. Plans and implements summer camp and after-school programming

Maintains records of program participation, revenues, registration, facility usage, and facility inventory and maintenance

Evaluates service delivery and makes recommendations for improvement, expansion or change in programming and facility

Coordinates facility usage and oversees facility operation

Prepares and manages annual budget for program area

Recommends supply and equipment purchases

Works cooperatively with neighborhood groups and agencies in developing center activities and programs

Enlists, trains, and supervises volunteers as well as paid part-time and seasonal staff

Assures proper maintenance of the center and sees that structures, areas, and equipment meet safety requirements

Other Functions
Work cooperatively with other staff to present quality recreation services

2) POSITION TITLE: Sports Coordinator
DEPARTMENT:    Sports Division
REPORTS TO:     Sports Manager
SUPERVISES:     Part-time staff and volunteers

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for developing, planning, organizing, and supervising a variety of athletic programs for the citizens of Rome and Floyd County.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates a diversified program of sports and special events; contracts with associations to schedule umpires and other officials for events
  • Develop and coordinate player and coaching clinics and training sessions
  • Assures that programs offered are consistent with department goals and conducts program evaluations upon completion
  • Recruits, trains, supervise and evaluate officials, part-time personnel and volunteers
  • Provides information about programs for brochures, pamphlets and newspaper articles and makes presentations to community organizations
  • Coordinates all-star team events including selecting players and coaches, hosting tournaments, and traveling to out-of- town events, and with local, state, and national governing bodies
  • Coordinates practices and provides overall direction for athletic programs of the department.
  • Coordinates activities with maintenance staff to assure upkeep and preparation of facilities
  • Maintains detailed records of athletic programs and event activities, maintains hours worked by employees submits to administration for payment.
  • Coordinates with community and civic organizations concerning special athletic events
  • Inventories equipment; prepares bids for equipment purchases
  • Coordinates with local, state and national organizations as necessary
  • Prepares all required paperwork and reports including activities reports, program and usage reports, and expenditure reports

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of sports facility design and equipment

  • Skill in planning and coordinating large groups of people in order to insure the availability of facilities, supplies and volunteers for athletic events

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the rules and regulations of various sports, Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Athletic Manual, ASA, ISA, GHSA rulebooks, and department rules and regulations. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to occupational field.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years,.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the state of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority recognizes the importance of Professional Certification to enhance ongoing professional development. Therefore, the professional staff of the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority will have twelve months, from the date of hire to acquire the certification from the National Recreation and Parks Association.

3) POSTITION TITLE: Maintenance Crew Leader
DEPARTMENT: Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for supervising and workers involved in the maintenance of recreation and parks.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Performs maintenance on public facilities and parks which includes building and fence maintenance and repair, cutting grass for ball fields and lawn areas, and litter collection.
  • Supervises the work of inmates and restitution workers performing park maintenance tasks.
  • Prepares parks and facilities for special events and sets up tables, chairs, tents, and other equipment as required.
  • Assists in maintenance on facilities and grounds including painting, cleaning restrooms, maintaining tennis courts and ball fields, repairing fences, and maintaining trail and dock areas.
  • Assists with special construction projects and assists in frame construction, painting, landscaping, etc.
  • Operates equipment and tools to cut and trim trees, hedges, and clear grounds areas.
  • Insures that equipment operates properly and schedules routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance techniques
  • Knowledge or department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of layout of various types of athletic fields, ball field maintenance, and landscaping techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of supervision and security provision requirements for inmates.
  • Knowledge of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and application techniques.
  • Skill in operating tools and equipment used in parks grounds keeping and maintenance (e.g., tractor, mowing attachments, dump truck, loaders, etc.).
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in supervising the work of inmates.
  • Skill in driving county vehicle.
  • Skill in routine equipment maintenance and repair.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines consist of safety regulations, corrections ~ procedures for supervising inmates, the supervisor's instructions, and standing and special work orders. The guidelines are clear and ~ specific, but may require some interpretation by the employee in application to particular situations.

COMPLEXITY: The work involves related tasks. Seasonal demands and equipment failures contribute to the complexity of the work.

SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of the work is to maintain the buildings, facilities, and grounds of the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority. Successful performance contributes to the public's enjoyment of the facilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work of this position involves standing, bending, crouching, walking, or stooping, and frequently lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds. The employee uses tools and equipment requiring dexterity and must climb ladders.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The incumbent is exposed to much dust, dirt, irritating chemicals, and grease as well as machinery and its moving parts. The use of protective devices is required.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has functional supervision over inmates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • No prior experience required to perform the basic tasks of the position.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • No prior criminal record.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and physical exam.
  • Must be able to obtain correctional officer certification from the state of Georgia.
