Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation (RFPRA) is proud to be an Organization Member of the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS).

To help ensure a safe, positive, and rewarding experience for all youth athletes, RFPRA requires volunteer coaches to complete the necessary NAYS coaching courses before coaching youth sports through our organization.

These training courses are designed to equip volunteer coaches with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to be effective leaders, promote athlete safety and well-being, and provide the best possible experience for the youth they serve.

Required Training Courses

All volunteer coaches must complete the following courses:

  1. One Sport-Specific Coaching Course

  2. Coaching Youth Sports (Foundations of Coaching)

  3. Youth Sports and First Aid

  4. Bullying Prevention for Youth Coaches

  5. Mental Health and Youth Sports

  6. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training

Certification Cost and Membership Benefits

The initial NAYS Coach certification costs $20 and is valid for 12 months.

Volunteer coaches who coach multiple sports through RFPRA may obtain each additional sport-specific certification for only $5 per sport during their existing membership period. Coaches are only required to complete the sport-specific course for each additional sport, provided all other required training courses have been completed.

Upon becoming a NAYS Coach member, volunteers receive a limited liability insurance benefit of $1,000,000 through NAYS. Returning coaches, who are renewing at the end of their 12 month membership, may qualify for an increased liability insurance benefit of $2,000,000, provided they meet the renewal specific requirements.

Important Information for Existing NAYS Members

Volunteer coaches who already maintain an active NAYS Coach membership through their employer or another volunteer organization may not need to purchase a separate membership.

RFPRA sports staff can assist with linking an existing NAYS account to our organization. If all applicable membership requirements are satisfied, the certification fee may be reduced by up to $15.

If you believe you are already a NAYS Coach member, please notify RFPRA sports staff before purchasing a new membership. We will help determine whether your existing membership qualifies for this benefit.

Existing memberships must meet all applicable NAYS requirements to qualify for a reduced fee or other membership benefits.
