Get on your comfortable walking shoes and start the New Year off right by taking part in the First Day Hike at Lock and Dam Park on Saturday, January 1 at 11 a.m.
Hikers will gather at the Coosa River Trading Post before taking off for the self-led hike. Friendly dogs on leashes are welcome.
Hikers have two great trails to explore. One trail goes through the primitive campground, along the Coosa River and through the Coosa River Nature Preserve. The second trail takes hikers by the boat launch to a geocaching site on upgraded trails.
The cost for the event is $5 per hiker, which includes a post hike hot dog lunch. For more information, contact Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation.
