Atrium Health Floyd’s Paper Dolls will be trading their high heels and sandals for running shoes this fall.
The Paper Doll Parade and Breast Cancer Awareness 5K is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30, at Ridge Ferry Park in Rome. Those iconic dolls – symbols of breast health, breast education and the belief that knowledge is power – will be on display in fashionable running apparel around the park.
Organized by Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation, the event will also include a 2-mile Paper Doll Parade health walk, so participants can walk, run or just have fun.
The event will also include a pre-race and walk costume contest as well as food trucks and a D.J.
Registration for the 5K, which is certified and serves as a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race, is $26 and the walk is $21. Participants are urged to:
· Form teams for a good cause.
· Come up with a fun name.
· Design your own Paper Doll costume to wear.
A dollar from every entry will help women who can’t afford a mammogram receive one through Floyd Healthcare Foundation’s scholarship fund. You can donate online at https://www.floyd.org/foundation/Pages/Make-a-Donation.aspx
Groups of 20 or more can enter at a discounted price. Runners and walkers can find links to register at rfpra.com. The 5K is set to start at approximately 5 p.m. with the walk following 15 minutes later.
“We have been wanting to bring back a fall road race, and Atrium Health Floyd is the perfect sponsor to help us do this,” said RFPRA Director Todd Wofford. “I hope everyone can come out and enjoy a fun day of walking, running and fun.”
