Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation has three big Holiday happenings lined up for Saturday, Dec. 16 at Ridge Ferry Park.
It all starts at noon with the 2023 version of the Candy Cane Hunt where kids age 12 and under are invited to come out and hunt for more than 6,500 candy canes. The hunt begins at noon near the ice skating rink. The event is free. Santa Claus will be on hand to help start the hunt and also be available afterwards for photos.
At 2 p.m., the park plays host to the 2023 version of Playtime with Santa. As Santa’s elves will be on hand to help hand out soccer balls, footballs and basketballs to the first 400 kids 12 and under. The event is free but we do limit one ball per child. While the event is set to last until 4 p.m., it is first come, first serve and ends when all of the balls have been distributed. Santa will be on hand until 4 p.m. for photos.
Of course, there will also be ice skating at The Rink at Ridge Ferry Park all day with the rink opening at 11 a.m. and not closing until 9 p.m. Admission to skate is $12 for kids 10 and under and $14 for adults.
“With the ice skating rink at Ridge Ferry Park this year, we thought it would be a great chance for the park to play host to these two great free events for kids,” Todd Wofford, RFPRA Director says. “We hope everyone comes out and has a fun day at the park, and we’d like to thank Coca-Cola for being the sponsor for both the Candy Cane Hunt and Playtime with Santa.”
