Commit 2 Fit Leprechaun-a-thon 5K and walk set for March 20

Rome’s largest and most fun-filled road race returns for 2021 with a new sponsor and a slightly new name as the Commit 2 Fit Leprechaun-a-thon 5K and Health Walk present by BODYARMOR is set for Saturday, March 20.

The 5K race and two-mile health walk returns to an in-person event on the regular course. A few modifications have been made for safety’s sake with both the run and the walk going off in waves. The race begins on First Avenue just down from Bridgepoint Plaza, covers portions of the Kingfisher Trail and the trails on the levees before finishing on the pedestrian bridge just before the Town Green and the Forum.

The 5K waves begin at 5 p.m. with the walk waves beginning at approximately 5:50 p.m. Participants are encouraged to wear as much green as possible as well as decorate with lots of glowing goodies. Music and BODYARMOR will be available on the Town Green after the race.

Participants will be able to pick which wave they want to participate in. Waves are limited to 50 participants and it is done on a first come first serve basis. Participation in the race is also limited to 900 total runners or walkers.

Registration is now open at runsignup.com or by visiting our offices at 1 Shorter Avenue. Registration for the 5K costs $25 and the health walk costs $20. Group registration discounts are available to those groups of 10 or more runners or walkers. Group registration must be done in person at our main office. A group representative will need to submit the registration forms and payment for the group.

Packet pick-up and late registration will happen the week before the race with no race-day registration or packet pick up available on race day to help limit crowds.

Special awards will be awarded to the top three finishers in age groups as well as the overall male and female winners, masters winners and grandmaster winners. Results will be posted on Sunday, March 21 by midafternoon and winners can pick up their awards the next week at RFPRA Headquarters.

The race course is flat and fast, USATF Certified and serves as a Peachtree qualifier.

“We are pleased to be able to institute a wave start system for the run and the walk to allow us to bring the Leprechaun-a-thon back to in-person racing. We would also like to thank BODYARMOR for stepping up to be the sponsor and help us keep this great race running,” Todd Wofford, RFPRA Director says. “We can’t wait to see the participants out running, walking and enjoying themselves.”
