Ice Skating Opens on Monday, Nov. 20

Romans will get an early Christmas present next week as the Rink at Ridge Ferry Park ice skating rink opens to the public on Monday, Nov. 20 a few days earlier than originally planned.

The rink, which is covered by a giant white tent in front of the Coca-Cola stage in Ridge Ferry Park, will now be open the three days leading up to Thanksgiving from 1 to 9 p.m.

Admission to skate is $12 for kids 10 and under and $14 for adults which includes skate rental.

The ice itself is kept cool by two chillers and the massive tent over the top of it. Concessions will be available for purchase and food trucks will be set up next to the rink on most days.

The ice rink is a partnership between Atlanta Events Specialists (AES) and Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation. AES has been running and maintaining seasonal ice rinks for more than a decade. Along with AES, Coca-Cola, Chick-fil-A and Courtesy Ford have come on as major sponsors as well as Georgia Power to help bring ice skating to town.

“The ice is down, and we are getting ramped up to have a great event for all of Rome and the surrounding communities,” Todd Wofford, Director of Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation, says. “We know that people have been wanting an ice rink back in Rome, and we are happy to be able to partner with Atlanta Events Specialists and our sponsors to make it happen.”

The rink will be open Tuesday through Sunday for open skating when school is in session and add Monday open skate hours when school is closed for holidays. The skating season lasts from Monday, Nov. 20 to Monday, Jan. 15.
